Feedback and Ratings

Feedback

Ask your users to share their thoughts, opinions and suggestions after using your app or even before it. These insights can convert into a better and more successful app experience for them, and more success for you. One way for getting feedback is by opening feedback channels on Twitter and Reddit. These pages should be reachable via links shown in the app’s main or settings windows.

Ratings

Social Proof is Important:

Rating is a powerful tool in building trust and credibility. When potential users see positive feedback/ratings from others, they are more likely to trust and engage with your app. In the context of Overwolf, where users interact with a wide range of apps, social proof can significantly influence whether a new user decides to download an app or whether an existing user continues to use it.

Here are a few key reasons why it's crucial:

  1. Increased Trust and Credibility: Positive reviews and ratings demonstrate that your app has been tried and tested by others. They show that your app is well-liked, making new users feel more comfortable trying it out.
  2. Influences Decisions: Users often rely on reviews to make decisions. Whether it's choosing an app or deciding whether to continue using it, positive feedback can sway the decision.
  3. Feedback Loop: Reviews allow you to gather insights into what users love about your app, giving you valuable data to improve and enhance features.

Ways to Encourage Users to Leave Good Feedback:

  1. Timing is Key: Prompt users for feedback after a positive experience, such as when they've completed a level or achieved something within the game. They’ll be in a better mood to provide positive feedback.
  2. Incentivize Feedback: Offering small rewards (like in-app currency, exclusive content, or features) can motivate users to leave reviews.
  3. Personalized Requests: Instead of generic prompts, tailor feedback requests to the user’s experience. For example, if they’ve completed a significant task, ask them about their experience with that specific feature.
  4. After Users Have Interacted Multiple Times: As mentioned, triggering feedback requests after several sessions (e.g., 3-5 interactions) ensures that users have enough experience with the app to leave meaningful feedback.
  5. Smart Follow-up Prompts: For users who rate the app between 1-3 stars, prompt them to contact support or ask them to elaborate on their feedback. This provides an opportunity to address their concerns and resolve issues before they leave a public review. For users who rate between 4-5 stars, encourage them to leave a review or rating in the app store, as they are more likely to take positive action and share their experience with others.

Note:

  • Potential Interruptions: Triggering the prompt too frequently can become annoying to users. If they see too many requests for feedback, it may lead to prompt fatigue and a reluctance to leave reviews. This may cause frustration and prompt negative reviews instead of the positive ones you’re hoping for.

In summary, it's all about timing and context. By prompting users for feedback after they've had a chance to experience the app fully, while ensuring you aren't overdoing it, you can create a system that encourages constructive feedback, both positive and negative, at the right moments. This builds trust, helps improve the app, and drives the overall success of your Overwolf app.
