Phase 4 - Grow Your App
Once your app is live, keep it thriving with regular updates, ongoing QA, and effective promotion strategies. This stage covers everything from managing updates to promoting your app across various channels.
Step 1 - Launch and maintain your app
Ensure your app meets Overwolf’s standards and is ready for launch. Regular updates help maintain user satisfaction, app performance, and compatibility with new games.
- QA approval—before going live, ensure your app’s release candidate version is QA approved. This includes verifying that ads are correctly enabled and functional.
- Go live process—complete the QA review, finalize your store listing, enable ads, and complete Payoneer registration.
- Store listing—use high-quality assets and visuals to make your app appealing. Update your listing regularly using the Developers Console to reflect new features or improvements.
- Ads enablement—the revenue and QA teams will verify and enable ads for your app.
- Payoneer registration—look for a message from your DevRel with instructions to register for Payoneer.
- Update your app regularly—after launch, maintain your app by fixing bugs, adding new features, and supporting additional games. Routine updates enhance user experience and increase app retention and ratings. Learn more about updating your app.
Step 2 - Promote your app
Promotion is key to expanding your app’s reach. App promotion is a process of advertising your app through various different forms of media. There are various different ways to self-promote your app.
Self-promotion strategies
Overwolf recommends the following self-promotion strategies:
- Social media—engage your audience with regular posts, updates, and user interaction.
- Community forums—connect with users on forums related to gaming and Overwolf apps (e.g. Discord, Reddit).
- App website—consider a dedicated website to attract more users and provide extra details about your app.
- Media kit—logo’s app description, sample windows, and other assets to showcase your app to users in the Overwolf App store.
Overwolf promotion opportunities
If eligible, your app may qualify for Overwolf’s internal marketing channels based on your app’s performance metrics.
- Minimum requirements—Generally, apps need 500+ DAU, 50% second-week retention for four weeks, a store rating of 4, and some form of monetization (e.g., ads or subscriptions).
- Promotion criteria—prioritization of apps with high functionality, quality UX, and alignment with Overwolf Best Practices. Some apps that don’t meet all benchmarks may still qualify for promotion, especially with notable updates or new game support.
Overwolf may approve or decline ANY promotion request based on app quality and relevance.
Overwolf offers a number of different app promotion methods:
- CRN (Client Recommendation Notification)—a pop-up shown when users launch another app.
- CRI (Client Recommendation Installation)—a pop-up shown during the Overwolf client installation.
- Overwolf App Carousel—a featured slide on the Overwolf App Storefront.
Paid marketing campaigns
Occasionally, Overwolf partners with developers for paid marketing campaigns, which include PPC ads, influencer marketing, and internal Overwolf promotions.
- Fully managed campaigns—minimum $15K per month for 3+ months, managed by Overwolf.
- Partnership campaigns—Overwolf contributes 30-50% of the budget, managed primarily by the developer.
